Incubation of quail eggs at home
Many poultry farmers today prefer not to buy new individuals, but to grow the livestock themselves. This statement is also true for quail. Since hatching takes time and negatively affects the production process, breeders prefer to resort to incubation (in particular, using incubators). What is an incubation at home?
The most suitable is an incubator designed for quail eggs. Units designed for chickens can also be used, but their operation is problematic.
Attention should also be paid to the presence of the automatic egg flipping function - this option will greatly simplify the life of the breeder. When choosing an incubator, it is important to pay attention to temperature and humidity sensors.
Did you know? The first copies of incubators in Eastern Europe appeared in 1927.
Egg preparation and selection
The successful conclusion of quail largely depends on the correct choice of parents and their fruits.
Formation of the parent herd
Quails are selected from 2 to 8 months of age, and quail from 2 to 5. The ratio of females and males should be 4 to 1. They should not be relatives: breeding animals within the same tribe is fraught with degradation of the livestock.
Ovoscopy is performed not earlier than the incubation period of the egg reaches the mark of 7 days - it is not possible to see what is happening inside it before. If the egg is fertilized, a dark formation will be observed in its lower part.
Storage until bookmark
No less important is the question of how to store eggs before laying, and what characteristics they should have. The table will help:
Important! Using dirty eggs will harm both other fruits and the incubator itself.
Preparation is carried out with the aim of increasing the removal of quail, which under the most favorable conditions is not more than 85%. The inside of the incubator is washed with warm water, after which it is treated with a quartz lamp or formaldehyde vapor and left to dry.2-3 hours before bookmarking, the mechanism starts to warm up the camera. In addition, a similar measure allows you to determine if there are malfunctions.
Egg laying in the incubator
There are two bookmark schemes. Both of them provide the same survival, and therefore are equally preferable.
Such a laying involves the placement of eggs in a vertical plane at an angle from 30 ° to 40 °. They are located with the sharp end down in the trays having a hole on the bottom with a diameter of 3-4 mm.Periodically, they turn over - manually or automatically - if there is such a function in the incubator.
Did you know? Black spots on eggs are coagulated blood that is easily erased.
This scheme involves laying the eggs on one side and rolling them periodically. She has no other features.
The whole process requires strict adherence to the regime. Each period determines how many chicks are hatched.
Period incubation modes
For each period, it is clearly determined how many days the eggs are hatched in a certain way, after which the next period begins.
|Period name||Warming up||Main||Output|
|Days||1st to 3rd||3rd to 15th||From the 15th to the 17th|
|Temperature||37.5 to 38.5 °||37,7°||37,5°|
|Humidity||60% to 70%||60% to 70%||80% to 90%|
|Ventilation||Not required||Is required||Is required|
|Flipping||Not required||3 to 6 times a day||Not required|
To know how to properly grow eggs in an incubator, it is necessary to monitor the condition of the embryo:
|Loosening of the yolk, visualization of the germinal disc||1st to 2nd|
|The circulatory system develops||3rd|
|Body shaping begins||4th|
|The digestive system, beak and body shape are formed||5th to 6th|
|A fluff forms, completion of the formation of the beak and wings||7th|
|The yolk is drawn in and the protein is reduced||8th to 16th|
|Yolk retraction and embryo formation complete||17th|
Incubation with and without coup
This issue remains largely debatable, and there is no unequivocal opinion on how to deduce. However, large broods are observed during incubation with a coup, and therefore this method is more preferable.
When using the coup in incubation, the breeder needs to turn the eggs themselves 3 to 6 times a day to warm them up uniformly so that the embryos are fully formed. If there is a flip function in an incubator, human intervention is not required.If the coup is not used, only warmth is needed, and no manipulations are carried out.
Important! If the yolk forms at the sharp end of the egg, it is defective and should be removed.
Other incubation features
In addition to the above features, it is worth remembering the following:
- hatching of the quail should occur quickly - the presence of any problems with breaking through the shell indicates marriage;
- the incubation process ends at the same time of the day at which it was started;
- the most optimal water for incubation is boiled.
The withdrawal occurs almost exactly 17 days, plus or minus an hour. As soon as the chicks begin to hatch, they must be kept in the incubator for a while, so that they cool slightly, and their plumage has time to form.It is not worth immediately opening and releasing the chicks - such a shock will adversely affect their health.
The following errors should be avoided:
- frequent opening of the incubator, which leads to a change in humidity;
- spraying hot eggs with water causes a burn effect;
- closing the lid immediately after spraying leads to condensation;
- assisting chickens in breaking through the shells - they do not need help with how to hatch.
